As concerns grow over unregistered businesses charging GST, the Department of Revenue and Customs (DRC) plans to impose penalties on those that do so illegally. Under the Goods and Services Tax Rules 2026, businesses that falsely present themselves as registered GST entities or offer prices that include an amount of GST will face much heavier penalties, ranging from Nu 50,000 to 1 M. Businesses that fail to comply with notices issued by the DRC or that issue tax invoices without being registered
