Flying in the Mustang The North American Aviation P-51D Mustang is a long range fighter used in World War II and the Korean War. Designed in 1940 and flown by the RAF 1942 to assist the Hurricane and Spitfire squadrons against the Luftwaffe. The P-51 was originally designed to use a US Alison engine, but replaced with the mighty Rolls-Royce Merlin engine which transformed the Mustangs performance.
