On February 7, 2026, Dominique Servant, 33, and her boyfriend, Joey L. Ruffin, 38, were charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment in the death of Servant’s eight-year-old son, Markell Pierce, in Round Lake Beach, Illinois. Police responded to a call for an unresponsive child on the 1900 block of Cedar Lake Road on Friday afternoon, February 6. Markell was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
