Has your person with dementia told you they wanted to go home? When someone with dementia says “I want to go home,” it doesn’t mean they forgot their address. Sometimes “home” is a place from their past… or simply somewhere they feel safe when they’re uncomfortable. Trying to convince them they’re already home often makes them more upset. Instead: 1. Validate their feelings (“You seem upset, is everything okay at home?”) 2. Explore what “home” means to them (“Who’s there right now?”) 3. Ask them
