Lester Holt is to step down as anchor of “NBC Nightly News” after a decade behind the desk of the flagship evening newscast, NBC News and others reported. The veteran journalist, who has been in the role since 2015, is reportedly leaving in early summer.

Holt has been a calming presence at NBC News, where his unflappable and low-key demeanor helped the news division move forward after a period of tumult. He took over “Nightly” duties after his predecessor, Brian Williams, was removed following scrutiny of claims the latter made about the details of a reporting trip to Iraq.

NBC’s veteran Lester Holt, 65, is stepping down as anchor of the network’s flagship “Nightly News” broadcast in the coming months. Holt, who has been the face of “Nightly News” for a decade, won’t be leaving NBC altogether, however. In a memo to staff Monday, he said he would be expanding his work on NBC’s “Dateline,” taking on a full-time role.
