Texas may officially rename New York strip steak after in a slap to the “liberal” Empire State that promotes local beef — but may fire up an interstate beef instead. Texas Lt.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick wants to change the name of the New York Strip. He says calling it a Texas Strip will help promote beef from the Lone Star State. Patrick says a concurrent resolution to make the change will be filed in the Texas Senate.

New York strip is the most popular term in the U.S. used to refer to a strip steak. The cut comes from the short loin. When the tenderloin portion of the short loin is removed, you're left with a cut that will produce several strip steaks.

Now, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick says he wants to change the name of a steak. In a post to X on Friday afternoon, Patrick said a resolution will be filed to rename the “New York Strip” to the “Texas Strip” at restaurants and grocery stores here in the Lone Star State.
