The Panthers could have a trade up their sleeve after the placing Matthew Tkachuk on LTIR to create cap space.

Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk was placed on injured reserve on Sunday due to a groin injury. It was not immediately known if Tkachuk is on the traditional injured reserve or long-term IR, however. Tkachuk, 27, has sat out the Panthers' past four games after being injured during the 4 Nations Face-Off.

It looks like Matthew Tkachuk’s injury is worse than some might have hoped. On Sunday, the Florida Panthers placed the winger on long-term injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

After landing Seth Jones in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, the Florida Panthers freed up further cap space by placing star forward Matthew Tkachuk on long term injured reserve. Tkachuk suffered a groin injury while representing the United States at the 4 Nations Face-Off and has not played in a game since returning to the Panthers.
