Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is ready to move to Liverpool despite the Premier League champions signing Hugo Ekitike.

Liverpool passed up the chance to sign Isak when they instead chose to spend a then club-record fee on Darwin Nunez in 2022, but he could replace the Uruguayan, who has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield in recent days.

Manchester United registered late interest in Ekitike and Newcastle were also keen admirers, but it is Liverpool who have won the race and the striker has signed a six-year contract. The Frenchman has completed his medical and will now fly out to Hong Kong to join his new team-mates on the pre-season tour.
