A Florida man who was texting when the dump truck he was driving crashed into and crushed a pickup truck in New Smyrna Beach, killing its driver, was sentenced to eight years in prison as part of a plea agreement.

The dump truck driver, also 66, attempted to avoid a collision, but his truck crashed into the SUV, according to the sheriff. The SUV “exited the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned, coming to rest on its top.”

One person has died after a crash involving a dump truck and another vehicle on Thursday morning, authorities said.
