An unusual player sauntered onto the green at the PGA National Tour on Thursday afternoon, but a quick-thinking golfer shooed it away before it wreaked any havoc.

PGA Tour star Billy Horschel had to poke an alligator back into the water after one approached him during the PGA National.

Horschel played his college golf for the Florida Gators, so he knows plenty about the wildlife that gets seen on courses in the Sunshine State — including, yes, alligators.

Professional golfer and former University of Florida Gator Billy Horschel took time out of his PGA Tour schedule to play alligator whisperer with a real-life reptile after it made an unwanted guest appearance on Feb. 27 at the PGA National Members Club in Palm Beach Gardens.

This wasn’t Horschel’s first encounter with alligators. He was born in Grant, Florida and has spent his 38 years living in the Sunshine State.

The longtime pro produced one of the finest rounds in golf history at the Cognizant Classic. Ross Chastain has the best average finish at COTA among active drivers but could face a challenge from teammate Shane van Gisbergen.
