A Red Flag Warning​ is back in effect for much of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, as the fire threat remains high.

If you see a smokey haze or smell something burning in the air, it’s likely because of wildfires burning in New Jersey. New York City has extended its red flag warning through 6 p.m. Saturday, according to a notice on the NotifyNYC social media account.

A red flag warning is issued when there is a high risk of fire caused by critical fire weather conditions. Any fire that develops could catch and spread quickly. Those dangers can be amplified by low humidity and gusty winds.
