The catcher says the discomfort in his left ankle affects him mainly when running, but might have assisted in his second-half hitting slump last year

Will Smith made his 2025 Spring Training debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers this past Friday in their first Cactus League night game of the year. Smith went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts against the Los Angeles Angels as he continues to deal with a left ankle injury that has plagued him since the middle of last season.

Smith said the ankle injury did not factor into his drop-off, but the Dodgers say otherwise: "There’s been some nagging stuff."

Dodgers catcher suffered the injury on a slide last June at Yankee Stadium. Smith starts his second game this spring training on Sunday.
