Making her first appearance as Saturday Night Live ’s musical guest since 2011, Cher performed two songs from her 2023 Christmas album titled, simply, Christmas. She was flanked by backup dancers for “DJ Play a Christmas Song” and covered Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run.”

Cher! The music legend returns for only her second episode as Musical Guest. Her first was in 1987 during Season 13, fresh off her 18th studio album. Now she has 27 studio albums, and most recently released the holiday-themed "Christmas" in 2023.

There will be a new episode of “SNL” on Saturday, Dec. 20 and it will be the last one for the year. Ariana Grande is expected to host with musical guest Cher. This isn’t the first time Grande will be hosting “SNL” as she hosted back in October 2024 and served as the musical guest in September 2014 and March 2024.

The final new “SNL” episode of 2025 will air on Dec. 20. “Wicked: For Good” star Ariana Grande will close the season when she hosts the show for the third time. Her return to “SNL” for the 2025 Christmas episode comes just over a year after she stopped by Studio 8H for Season 50.

Saturday Night Live pays tribute to filmmaker Rob Reiner after his tragic passing this month. Rob Reiner, who was found dead along with his wife on December 14th, was honoured in the final SNL episode this Saturday. They put up an old image of the director along with his name on the screen before the goodnight segment.

Reiner is part of Saturday Night Live history. He hosted the third ever episode in 1975 and helped establish the signature format of the late-night show as the first host to participate in sketches. (He also appeared as an audience member in a Season 10 episode.

Saturday Night Live' paused its year-end Christmas episode on Saturday night (Dec. 20) to pay tribute to Rob Reiner.
