A woman was wounded Monday night when she was struck by gunfire while standing outside a business on the South Side, police said.

A woman playing a gambling machine at the Washington Food Mart on the city’s West End suffered multiple gunshot wounds Sunday night after she pulled out a concealed handgun to defend herself when three teenage assailants tried to rob the convenience store.

Investigators identified the suspected gunman as Carl Clark, a 74-year-old Athens resident. Police located Clark shortly after the shooting and arrested him. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, aggravated battery and criminal attempt to commit murder.
