The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has unveiled a proposal to simplify the process for consumers to unlock their mobile phones from carrier restrictions.
Specifically, according to the FCC, carriers would simply have to provide unlocking services 60 days after activation.
The FCC wants to make it easier for US mobile consumers to unlock their carrier-locked phones with a new unlocking rule.
Wireless providers would have to unlock all cellphones within 60 days of activation under a proposal unveiled Thursday by the Federal Communications Commission.
