Fort Carson Officials say that a grass fire began at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Friday, in the training area of the base. At the time of this broadcast, an estimated 500 acres have been burned.

On Friday afternoon, firefighters were battling a brush fire within a training area of Fort Carson. As of 2:30 p.m. Fort Carson firefighters were responding to the fire. Fort Carson officials said they were unsure how the fire started or exactly how large the fire had gotten.

The Fort Carson Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the training area of the base Friday, according to Gazette news partner KOAA.

Smoke is visible from a fire burning in a training area on Fort Carson on Friday, Feb. 7, though the Mountain Post said no buildings are threatened currently. According to Fort Carson, the fire is burning in a training area south of post.
