The European Commission has ramped up its investigation into Elon Musk’s X social network after the tech mogul criticized European governments in recent weeks, and just days before President-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the White House.

The European Union is considering expanding its investigation into whether Elon Musk's social media network X breached its content moderation rulebook, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, citing the bloc's tech policy chief.

The European Union is putting in place additional investigatory measures as part of its current proceedings against X, which were launched in December 2023. The EU Commission said Friday it had asked the X platform to provide documentation regarding recent changes to its system by Feb 15.

Musk's X is suspected of manipulating the platform's systems to give far-right posts and politicians greater visibility over other political groups.

The European Commission has intensified its investigation into Elon Musk's social media network, X, concerning potential breaches of EU content moderation rules. The Commission has requested internal documentation and information on recommender systems from X amid accusations of political interference by Musk.

Elon Musk is expected to speak at a Make America Great Again Victory Rally in Washington, D.C. He previously has delivered remarks at other President-elect Donald Trump events, including a campaign rally at Madison Square Garden.
