The CMOS battery is an often overlooked but crucial element. Hidden on the motherboard of your computer, it acts like an emergency power supply for the BIOS.

The updated BIOS places the battery in "Battery Safety Mode" so that affected laptops can be safely used without the battery by connecting to an HP power adapter.
