A report of an active shooter at Villanova turned out to be a "cruel hoax," according to the university president and Delaware County DA.

The false report of a gunman drew a large police response to the university’s campus northwest of Philadelphia, where freshmen and their parents were told to shelter in place.

The police said on social media that there were no immediate reports of victims but emphasized that “the incident remains active.”
