San Jose Sharks’ Macklin Celebrini a game-time decision to play against Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena

San Jose Sharks rookie Macklin Celebrini returned to the ice on Monday morning for an optional skate after missing practice on Sunday with a lower-body injury.

The goalie returns to Pittsburgh after being placed on waivers Jan. 15 and assigned to the AHL once he cleared. Joel Blomqvist, a 23-year-old rookie goalie, was sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a corresponding move after allowing six goals on 33 shots in the Penguins’ 6-5 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs on Sunday.

Toronto has been one of the hottest teams in hockey, while San Jose has been the worst with eight straight losses, sporting a -16 goal differential in that span. The Leafs have also been victorious in four of the last five meetings between the two.

It looks like one of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ depth players might be back in the lineup soon. On Sunday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reported that all signs are pointing toward forward Calle Jarnkrok making his season debut on Monday night when the Maple Leafs host the San Jose Sharks on Monday night.
