TikTok went dark for users across the U.S. late Saturday as the app notified users of a ban that went into effect just days before President-elect Trump's inauguration.

TikTok started going dark for 170 million American users in an unprecedented display of the U.S.-China divide over technology and national security.

As a last resort, the platform is preparing for a total shutdown Sunday, the day a U.S. ban is set to go into effect if the Supreme Court doesn’t overrule it.
