In the ninth inning of the Yankees’ 11-5 win over the Mariners on Monday night, third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera fractured his left ankle while scoring on a ninth-inning, bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge. LeMahieu will be in Seattle for Tuesday’s game.

“It made me sick to my stomach, to be honest,” second-year Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told Newsday from his Citi Field office early Tuesday afternoon. “You hate to see that happen to anyone but knowing the kid, how much joy he brings every day, how much he cares, the personality, it just breaks your heart.”

Oswaldo Cabrera was hurt on an awkward slide when he reached back for the plate and scored the Yankees’ final run on Aaron Judge’s sacrifice fly.
