Tampa reached another milestone on Tuesday afternoon, reaching an all-time record heat index of 119° at around 2:30 p.m.

The top heat index in Washington on a sultry Tuesday appeared to be 103. The heat index, the “feels-like” temperature, exceeded 100 degrees again in Washington on Tuesday, in a sort of demonstration that history does repeat itself, while also authorizing use of the expression déjà vu.

The heat index is a measure of how hot it really feels on your body when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.

At 12:11 a.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued an extreme heat warning valid between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison and Morgan counties.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for our Hump Day. This means that heat index values could climb OVER 110 degrees. Tuesday, Meridian’s highest heat index value was 115. Sadly, our entire area could experience something similar for Wednesday.

An extreme heat warning and an extreme heat watch were issued by the National Weather Service in Jacksonville for July 28 and 29.
